J.M.W Turner was born in Covent Garden, London on April 23, 1775 (Although the exact date is disputed).
In 1785 the young Turner was sent in 1785 to stay with his uncle on his mother's side in Brentford, and it was here that he first expressed an interest in painting. A year later he went to school in Margate, and by now he had created many drawings. These were exhibited in his shop window.
By the age of 16 he had entered the Royal Academy of Art schools and the Academy itself a year later. He started exhibiting at the Academy in 1790 and subsequently exhibited at the academy almost every year for the rest of his life.
It is probably fair to say that Turner's style laid the foundation for Impressionism movement which emerged now long after his death on December 1851 .
